Well this makes sense. First of all, Disney was (and still is) all about business-efficiency to its core. Once, they made a hit movie - why not recycle it? Secondly, they shot live action footage for rotoscoping references - so it's understandable that even the FRAMING is exactly matched up b/c it's matched up to the live action framing. Nowadays, computer import/exporting makes this process easier and more subtle. Pixar (and probably most companies) reuse their material as well, whether deliberately (for easter eggs) or otherwise.
